10 pieces of advice for community building (and life)
Issue 11: your dose of motivation this week
Hi, I’m Emilie, and I’m writing this newsletter, Connection Engine, to discuss reflections and actionable lessons on community building in a digital world. If you’re a community builder or just curious about community work, you can join the fun by subscribing below!
Welcome to this special issue of Connection Engine where instead of diving deeper into my experience and learnings I just want to give you some tidbits of wisdom that help me stay on track and keep building when times get tough.
Sometimes a couple of words can do so much more than an essay can, and sometimes a couple of words are all you have time for (and really all you need).
So to honor your time and give you your dose of motivation for the week, here are 10 pieces of advice for community building (and for life).
Keep building. It’s not the critic who counts.
Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Discomfort is growth in disguise.
Give yourself the understanding you show others. It’s okay not to be productive every hour of every day.
Choose kindness. Always.
Do things that don’t scale.
Automate to track, personalize to deliver.
Show gratitude. Appreciation itself is always appreciated.
Rely on consistency to build. Motivation can be fleeting.
Build a community you’d want to be a part of.
Create an incredible adventure.
